‘Tulip Fever’ Gets a Release Date

Directed by Justin Chadwick, the long-gestating period drama also stars Dean DeHaan and Christoph Waltz.
Tulip Fever is finally blooming.

The period drama — starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander opposite Dean DeHaan and Christoph Waltz {and Holliday Grainger} — will open in select theaters July 15, The Weinstein Co. announced Tuesday.

A passion project for British producer Alison Owen, Tulip Fever is based on Deborah Moggach’s novel about an artist (DeHaan) who falls in love with a married woman (Vikander) after he’s commissioned by the husband (Waltz) to paint her portrait. Justin Chadwick directed from an adapted script by Tom Stoppard.

The film is set in Netherlands in the early 17th century, during the period known as Tulip Mania, when single bulbs would sell for enormous sums. In Tulip Fever, the two young lovers decide to invest in the risky tulip market in order to build a future together.

Harvey Weinstein has become a huge proponent of opening specialty films year-round, versus crowding them into the fall corridor (the heart of award season).

Tulip Fever, shot in 2014, has been finished for a year but only now has a release date.

Holliday Grainger Set To Join Cast Of ‘My Cousin Rachel’

Up-and-coming British actress Holliday Grainger is in final negotiations to join the cast of Roger Michell’s My Cousin Rachel opposite Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin for Fox Searchlight. The film is an adaptation of the classic Daphne Du Maurier novel. The dark romance revolves around Philip, a young orphan, who believes his mysterious, beautiful cousin Rachel may have been responsible for the murder of his beloved guardian Ambrose, also a cousin of theirs. As Philip plots his revenge, he finds his feelings complicated as he falls under Rachel’s beguiling spell.

The book, originally published in 1951, was previously adapted into a film starring screen legends Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton and directed by Henry Koster (Harvey).

Grainger’s star is on the rise, following performances in Lone Scherfig’s The Riot Club, Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella and holding her own opposite Casey Affleck and Chris Pine in The Finest Hours. She next stars in Tulip Fever opposite Alicia Vikander, Cara Delevigne and Christoph Waltz.

Holliday Grainger says Lady Chatterley’s Lover isn’t quite Fifty Shades Of Grey

WHILST the upcoming BBC One drama, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, is set to get pulses racing, Holliday Grainger says the titillating novel isn’t quite on the same level as E.L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey.

James Norton stars as Clifford, Lady Chatterley's husband

This Sunday, BBC One will be showing a modern incarnation of DH Lawrence’s infamously sexual novel which follows an aristocratic woman’s affair with a lowly gamekeeper, performed by Game of Throne’s Richard Madden. The original Lady Chatterley’s Lover by DH Lawrence was banned in Britain for over 30 years for its graphic sex scenes and obscene language, so there’s no wonder we are all waiting to see how far the BBC will go with their new adaptation.

But the new drama’s leading lady, 27-year-old Holliday, is less than impressed with the novel’s erotic reputation in comparison to modern S&M novels.“All I knew was that it was a really steamy, racy read and my grandparents had always said that the copy was well thumbed in libraries, and one particular middle central page!” said the actress who shot to fame in The Borgias.
