Up-and-coming British actress Holliday Grainger is in final negotiations to join the cast of Roger Michell’s My Cousin Rachel opposite Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin for Fox Searchlight. The film is an adaptation of the classic Daphne Du Maurier novel. The dark romance revolves around Philip, a young orphan, who believes his mysterious, beautiful cousin Rachel may have been responsible for the murder of his beloved guardian Ambrose, also a cousin of theirs. As Philip plots his revenge, he finds his feelings complicated as he falls under Rachel’s beguiling spell.
The book, originally published in 1951, was previously adapted into a film starring screen legends Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton and directed by Henry Koster (Harvey).
Grainger’s star is on the rise, following performances in Lone Scherfig’s The Riot Club, Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella and holding her own opposite Casey Affleck and Chris Pine in The Finest Hours. She next stars in Tulip Fever opposite Alicia Vikander, Cara Delevigne and Christoph Waltz.
