Strike mystery The Ink Black Heart finally has air dates confirmed by BBC

As per usually, the year ends well with Strike: The Ink Black Heart premieres in December! Tune in BBC One on December 16th for the first episode, and follow the other episodes on the 17th, 23rd and 24th for the rest of the season.

It’s been almost two years since Strike last aired on BBC One and fans will be pleased to know that season 6 is on the way in just a couple of weeks.

Starring Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger as Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott, the new season begins on Monday 16th December at 9pm on BBC One, and will be followed by a second episode the following night (17th).

Earlier this month, the BBC unveiled first-look images at the detective duo back in action in what appears to be quite the Christmas setting, hinting at some festive themes throughout.

The synopsis for the new season reads: “When frantic, dishevelled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn’t know quite what to make of the situation.

“The co-creator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie’s true identity.

“Robin decides that the agency can’t help with this – and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.

“Robin and her business partner Cormoran Strike become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie’s true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches them to their limit.”

Ruth Sheen, Jack Greenlees, Natasha O’Keeffe and Caitlin Innes Edwards will all be returning to their roles, and will be joined by newcomers David Westhead, Christian McKay, Emma Fielding, Tupele Dorgu and James Nelson-Joyce.

Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger return in BBC’s Strike – The Ink Black Heart

Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger are returning for the next instalment of Strike – The Ink Black Heart, the sixth (4×60) story of the BBC’s hit crime drama in co-production with HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery and based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

When frantic, dishevelled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn’t know quite what to make of the situation. The co-creator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie’s true identity.

Robin decides that the agency can’t help with this – and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.

Robin and her business partner Cormoran Strike become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie’s true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches them to their limit.

Strike is one of the UK’s most watched dramas, with the most recent instalment – Troubled Blood – averaging 8.4 million viewers across its run in 2022 (28-day figures).

Strike – The Ink Black Heart is adapted for the screen by writer Tom Edge (Vigil, You Don’t Know Me) who also adapted previous Strike instalments Troubled Blood, The Silkworm, Career of Evil and Lethal White. Jenny van der Lande (Too Close, You Don’t Know Me) is story producer and Alex Rendell returns as producer. Executive producers are J.K. Rowling (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Strike, The Casual Vacancy), Neil Blair (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Strike, The Casual Vacancy) and Ruth Kenley-Letts (Too Close, Strike, You Don’t Know Me) alongside Nick Lambon for the BBC.

HBO has North American rights and Warner Bros. is selling the show internationally. The previous five series of Strike are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Cormoran Strike is one of the most popular detectives in crime fiction today and JK Rowling as Robert Galbraith is among the genre’s most celebrated writers, shortlisted for the prestigious CWA Gold Dagger in 2015 and the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year in 2016. The Cuckoo’s Calling was published to critical acclaim in 2013 and went on to be a global bestseller, followed in 2014 by The Silkworm, Career of Evil in 2015, Lethal White in 2018 and Troubled Blood in 2020. The Ink Black Heart was published in August 2022 and the most recent novel, The Running Grave, was published in September 2023.
