Variety reports Holliday Grainger to Star in J.K. Rowling’s ‘Cormoran Strike’ TV Series

British actress Holliday Grainger has been cast as Robin Ellacott opposite Tom Burke, who plays Cormoran Strike, in the BBC’s “The Strike Series,” which is based on J.K. Rowling’s bestselling crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

The series comprises “The Cuckoo’s Calling,” with three hour-long episodes; “The Silkworm,” with two hour-long episodes; and “Career of Evil,” also with two hour-long episodes. The series is set to begin shooting in November across London.

Grainger, who most recently starred in BBC’s “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” as Lady Constance Chatterley, will play Robin, assistant to Strike, a private detective operating out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street. Though she begins as a temporary secretary, managing Strike’s chaotic life, she soon becomes involved with his caseload and begins to see her true potential.

Holliday Grainger says Lady Chatterley’s Lover isn’t quite Fifty Shades Of Grey

WHILST the upcoming BBC One drama, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, is set to get pulses racing, Holliday Grainger says the titillating novel isn’t quite on the same level as E.L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey.

James Norton stars as Clifford, Lady Chatterley's husband

This Sunday, BBC One will be showing a modern incarnation of DH Lawrence’s infamously sexual novel which follows an aristocratic woman’s affair with a lowly gamekeeper, performed by Game of Throne’s Richard Madden. The original Lady Chatterley’s Lover by DH Lawrence was banned in Britain for over 30 years for its graphic sex scenes and obscene language, so there’s no wonder we are all waiting to see how far the BBC will go with their new adaptation.

But the new drama’s leading lady, 27-year-old Holliday, is less than impressed with the novel’s erotic reputation in comparison to modern S&M novels.“All I knew was that it was a really steamy, racy read and my grandparents had always said that the copy was well thumbed in libraries, and one particular middle central page!” said the actress who shot to fame in The Borgias.

Holliday Grainger has moved from Manchester to Hollywood… and now she’s an A-lister in the making

“My life hasn’t really changed but if you’d told me a few years ago I would ever have a stylist I’d never have believed it”

“This is the longest I’ve not worked since I was six,” muses Holliday Grainger, sipping at a green health drink as we sit in the California sunshine outside a vegan restaurant in Venice. It is a long way from Manchester where the actress was born and still lives most of the time, but the 27-year-old, who is currently starring in big-budget Hollywood film The Finest Hours, has things she has to do in the US.

It may not be her idea of work, but as soon as we finish lunch I drive her to a meeting in Santa Monica, and her ensuing days are booked up with auditions, interviews and more meetings. After several highly regarded TV series and films, The Finest Hours (in cinemas from Friday 19 February) is Holliday’s first American movie.

Asos: Holliday Grainger talks romance, romcoms and Chris Pine

The Finest Hours is Disney’s latest live action flick (starring Chris Pine and Holliday Grainger) that retells the story of the 1952 US coast guard rescue of the tanker SS Pendleton after it split apart at sea. With plenty of drama and a pretty epic love story, it’s the perfect watch if ever you find yourself in the mood for a bit of a weepy. We caught up with Holliday to chat all things romance, dating and of course, Chris Pine.

How did you and Chris work on your chemistry before filming?

We had a rehearsal at the directors Craig Gillespie’s (the director) flat before we started and I really felt like it just sort of clicked into place pretty much straight away. We both fell in love with the relationship between the two characters. It was such a sweet story – they met of the phone, she liked the sound of his voice and the rest was history! I think that the instinct and integrity really shines through and I think that’s what Chris and I really wanted to show.

‘The Finest Hours’ Interview: Holliday Grainger Talks Cold Shoots, Playing Real-Life Person, More

Holliday Grainger stars as Miriam, the love interest to the young rookie member of the coast guard Bernie Weber (Chris Pine), in Craig Gillespie‘s The Finest Hours. The film is based on a true story of the Coast Guard making a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952.

The English actress talked to us and group of fellow journalists about the filming process, her portrayal of the real-life Miriam, working on her Boston accent, and much more. See what she had to say below.

Geeks of Doom: So would you really ask your boyfriend to marry you?

Holliday Grainger: Yeah if I thought it was right, why not? Oh god, marriage, though, I mean that’s one thing where me and Miriam differ. I don’t know.
